The ONA Business Development Liaison (BDL) is a business development resource offered through the Economic Development Unit of the ONA.  The range of resources and training has been developed through a comprehensive research project that ensures that the Okanagan is provided the highest quality Aboriginal business development possible in Canada, which includes;

 

  • One-to-one counseling and Self Assessment
  • Business planning and market research assistance
  • Business training workshops
  • Advocacy and guidance with financing/funding agents
  • Aftercare
  • Referrals

ONA BDL BUSINESS TRAINING WORKSHOPS:

 

You can request any of the following workshops to be delivered in partnership with experts throughout the region, directly to your community:

 

  • Introduction to Business (1 day)
  • Aboriginal Cultural Tourism Business Workshop
  • Youth Entrepreneurship (1/2 day)
  • Focused Marketing (1/2 day)
  • Financing and Funding Opportunities (1/2 day)
  • Business Plan Writing (6 week)
  • Focused Marketing (6 weeks)
  • Financial Understanding for Small Business (6 weeks)

This resource will be adapted to meet the developing needs of the Okanagan Nation until 2010, with a 2020 vision.

Who do I contact for this resource?

 

Your main contact is Laara Mixon, ONA BDL (1-877-808-0886).  Ms. Mixon visits the communities regularly and after approximately a ten minute assessment of need Ms. Mixon will provide recommendations on what kinds of support could meet your needs, i.e. workshop, individual meeting or partner referral.

 

Who is eligible for this resource and is there a cost for it or the workshops?

 

Anyone who is a member of the Okanagan Nation, on or off-reserve.  There is no cost for either the support resources or the workshops.

 

Is there funding support attached?

 

There is no funding support attached, however we do have a number of strategic partners who we can refer you for specific training opportunities.
