The Okanagan Nation “Spirit of the Syilx” Youth Unity Run is scheduled to take place May 31 – June 2, 2013. Youth from across the Okanagan Nation will run 235 kms through a major portion of the Okanagan Nation Territory starting in Revelstoke, BC where we completed the 2012 run and ending in Westbank, BC. (See the Run Schedule for more details).
We will be meeting at Revelstoke Secondary School (1007 Vernon Ave Revelstoke, BC) on May 31st from noon until 2pm and then heading to the Revelstoke Dam Visitors Centre for the Opening Ceremonies for 2:30pm.
This will be the 5th Annual Run with the three major goals of the run remaining the same: to create awareness of high violence in our Nation, to promote Nationhood among the Youth and to promote healthy living. We hope that through the run our Nation will begin addressing social problems at the root of the problem and bring awareness to youth and our communities on suicide and violence.
Last year there were 243 participants from each member community in the Okanagan Nation participating in this event. The youth will run in intervals at certain distances each day until the run is complete, see below for a detailed schedule.
