While building the Terasen Gas Southern Crossing Pipeline, Terasen Gas (now FortisBC) forged strong relationships with the member communities of the Okanagan Nation Alliance. In recognition, Fortis BC has established a Financial Award for Okanagan Nation Alliance members who are committed to building a better future for themselves and their community through post secondary educational studies.
This annual award started in 2009.
The award provides financial support to eligible Syilx Okanagan Nation members enrolled or accepted into a recognized university or college on a full-time basis in a minimum 2 year program.
Created in partnership with the Okanagan Nation Alliance, the FortisBC financial award program is open to all Syilx Okanagan Nation members who:
- post-secondary students attending a recognized university or college on a full-time basis
- registered in a minimum two-year academic program and maintain an average of C+ or 2.5 GPA
- have never received this bursary in the past four years
- attached by ancestry and identity to the Okanagan Nation
HOW TO APPLY
Eligible students must complete an Okanagan Nation/FortisBC financial award application form and submit, along with supporting documents, to the Okanagan Nation Alliance office no later than midnight on the deadline date.
FortisBC and the Okanagan Nation Alliance will receive and administer all applications for the award program.
