N’kwala School is hosting the 14th Annual Okanagan Band Schools Traditional Games on June 15, 2018 at Voght Park, Merritt, B.C. There will be 6 schools and approximately 240 students participating between the ages of 5 to 14. The schools participating include the Sensisyustn School (West Kelowna), Okanagan Indian Band Cultural Immersion School (Vernon), Outma Sqilx’w Cultural School (Penticton), NtAmtqEn snmA/mAyA/tn (Cawston), Sen’Pok’Chin School (Oliver), and N’kwala School (Douglas Lake).
The goal of the traditional games is to bring the Okanagan schools and students together to promote participation, sportsmanship, and friendship within an environment of awareness and appreciation of Okanagan culture. Traditional Okanagan games will include running events (100, 200, and 400 metres), the Spear Throw, Hoop Jump, Knobby Ball Throw, Rock Throw, and Archery. The primary games (5 and 6 year olds) will have a combination of traditional and fun games.
The games will be held in a fun, social, competitive environment. Our day will start at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Each student participating will receive a free lunch (hamburger – plain or with cheese or hotdog; water; fruit).
