sqʷəlqʷltulaʔxʷ Voices on the Land

Project Overview:

The Voices on the Land web atlas has been an ongoing initiative since 2012.  The Voices on the Land is the syilx-Okanagan Nations own land use tool. The web atlas utilizes the interactive platform of Google Maps. The web atlas brings together traditional knowledge, nsyilxcen language and other culturally relevant information. Web-atlas includes various types of data including video place names, land use layers, and 3 Key themes: culture, water and land. The Voices on the Land project is a way for the Okanagan people to express their voice on the land, and what syilx resource stewardship means to them.

Project Goals:

The goal is to bring together tradition and contemporary knowledge along with projects and accumulated data in a single location, and provide a means to view this information.

Project Plan:

http://voicesontheland.org  is an innovative use of technology to represent land use planning information and serves as an education platform across the Okanagan Nation Alliance territory.
